Acne Scarring – Various Treatments

Put simply an acne scar is the visible legacy of your skin's tissue damage it has suffered whilst the inflammation was at it's peak. Whenever our skin is damaged in any way, blood travels to the area carrying a mixture of the natural defences found within our own body. The body's immediate response is to heal and prevent further issues in the way of infection from external sources. Unfortunately, although our skin does a fantastic job of healing itself, it often does so with scant regard to how it looked in its former state. Once acne scars have formed, there are different ways of removing them. The most intense of treatments include surgical procedures which can be carried out either via laser therapy, plastic surgery or collagen injections. These methods usually involve difficult procedures, skilled and trained professionals, and in the case of laser therapy in particular, very expensive equipment. It is unsurprisng then that the cost of these treatments resultantly is considerably higher in price than alternatives. Simpler methods of acne scar removal include processes such as micro-dermabrasion, collagen induction therapy and silicone sheets. These approaches, although are often provided by beauty professionals and clinics, can be carried out at home successfully, at a much lower cost. Often these straightforward procedures can create as good a final result and usually do not require a period of recovery after treatment. It is important that before choosing a method of treating any acne scar, that research is done into each of the alternatives so the right balance can be made between cost and effectiveness. It is also worth considering carefully the recovery period, the length of time each treatment takes as well as any potential downsides.
